When not to go ecommerce...
Hill & Co Home is one of those absolute treasure trove shops. You pop in with a view to getting one thing and find yourself needing a bigger car to fit in all the wonderful things you end up buying! In the early days of our discussions with Annie, the owner, we looked at building this site with full ecommerce capabilities but very quickly realised a few things:
- A number of the items were just too big to easily ship
- Many items needed to be seen in person to be fully appreciated
- The potential for upsell was far greater if the visitor came to the shop
For these reasons we decided against selling online and instead created an attractive catalogue of items that could be found in the shop and more importantly we ensured that it was immensely simple for Annie to add new items to the catalogue, thus making sure it stayed up-to-date.
And what did the client think? Thanks so much to Will and the team- I am completely delighted with it all – you have been beyond efficient and helpful every step of the way and the website itself has far exceeded my expectations both in how it looks and what it can do. Really hope I can do it justice and keep it regularly updated!

Automate, automate, automate...then go make yourself a nice cup of tea.
We are always on the lookout for ways to reduce the workload of our clients (yes we are that nice!). To our mind if you can get a website to do something for you automatically and free up your time for something else, then why not do it?
With the Hill & Co Home website we knew that there was no way to automate the adding of new products to the site but that didn’t mean that we couldn’t automate the tasks of telling people about the new stock. We built into the site a newsletter feature that once a week sends, to anyone who has registered, an email containing a summary of all the new stock items. And we didn’t stop there either…every new product is immediately and automatically added as a new Facebook post.
